About
Ashton Herres is a New York City–based mixed-media artist working between figurative drawing, symbolic abstraction and densely rendered imagined worlds.

Herres builds images through a layered process of drawing, flat color and hand-rendered ink. Human figures, architecture, organic systems and esoteric symbols are treated as parts of the same visual language—structured enough to feel classical, but unstable enough to remain psychological.
Much of the work begins intuitively. Line becomes a way to translate thought into texture, while recognizable anatomy and environments give the abstraction somewhere to live. The resulting paintings and works on paper move between humor, anxiety, spirituality, technology and the strange social theater of contemporary life.
The practice also extends into public space. Herres regularly draws and paints around New York, using the city as both studio and audience. Direct encounters with strangers, collectors and other artists remain part of how the work develops.

The work is built slowly by hand, but it is meant to stay socially alive—something that can exist in a studio, on a city sidewalk, in a collector’s home, or in conversation with another artist.
